You're Not Doing It Wrong. You're Just Looking for a New Way to See It.
You want to honor God with your body.
You know it matters.
You've heard the "temple" verse a hundred times.
But somehow, the connection between your faith and your physical health still feels... disconnected.
You've tried fitness programs.
You've tried diet plans.
You've even tried "Christian" wellness books.
And yet, something still feels missing.
Not because you're unspiritual.
Not because you're undisciplined.
But because you haven't seen God's Word speak to your body in a way that makes sense to you.
Here's what I want you to know:
Your physical wellness journey doesn't have to look like everyone else's. It can be gentle. Visual. Transformative.
For me? That started when I stopped seeing my body as a project to fix...
And started seeing it as a temple where God dwells, just as Scripture teaches.
If you're ready to try that kind of biblical perspective— You're in the right place.
Let me show you how one verse can transform how you see your physical wellness journey.
SCRIPTURE (Warm-Up)
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
— 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Let's slow this down.
Before we break it apart, just... sit with it.
Breathe it in like a quiet stretch.
Let the words settle.
Your body... is a temple.
Not a problem to solve. Not a project to fix. Not a burden to bear.
A temple.
That one biblical image tells me something important:
My body isn't just functional it's sacred according to God's Word.
It's a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. A space where God Himself resides.
Have you ever read about the tabernacle or Solomon's temple in Scripture?
Think about how carefully God designed every detail (Exodus 25-27).
How the materials were precious. How the space was set apart. How God's presence filled it.
That's how God views your body in Christ.
It isn't just about performance.
It's about presence His presence within you.
When we start our wellness journey with this verse, we give ourselves permission to shift our perspective.
To be present. To receive, not strive. To honor, not punish.
So before you jump to another fitness program, start here:
One verse.
One breath.
One biblical truth: your body is God's temple.

ENGAGE (Strength Training)
This is where we build spiritual muscle—not by doing more, but by seeing more.
When you engage with Scripture about your body, you're not just reading it...
You're interacting with it.
You're letting it speak through visuals, symbols, reflections, and rhythm.
Let's walk through how to engage with 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 using a few gentle tools:
1. Highlight What Draws You In
Choose one word or phrase that feels alive to you.
You don't need to "pick the right one."
Just pick the one that pulls at your heart today.
Here are some options from the verse:
Temple
Holy Spirit
In you
Not your own
Bought at a price
Honor
Which one are you noticing most?
Write it down. Or highlight it in your Bible. That word is your doorway in.
2. Ask Visual Questions
Let's say you chose "temple." Try asking:
What does God's temple look like in Scripture? What qualities did it have?
How was God's temple in the Bible cared for and respected?
What happened inside God's temple? What was its purpose?
How might I view exercise, nutrition, or rest differently if I truly saw my body as the temple of the Holy Spirit?
These questions help you move from reading the verse... to seeing it through a biblical lens.
3. Sketch It Out (Even If You're Not "Artistic")
Here's a simple visual you can try:
Draw the outline of a simple temple structure like those described in Scripture.
Inside, draw a small flame or light representing the Holy Spirit dwelling within.
Around the temple, write words that represent how you want to honor this temple: "nourish," "strengthen," "rest," "protect."
Underneath, copy the verse in soft handwriting or color.
You've just made a visual verse map—one of the simplest ways to remember biblical truth through imagery.
Don't worry about perfection. This isn't performance.
It's presence with God's Word.
Why This Works
When you interact with this verse visually or symbolically, it gets anchored in your heart.
It moves from your eyes to your heart.
And from your heart... to your daily choices.
This is what engaging God's Word about your body looks like. It's creative. Reflective. Biblically-grounded.
And you can do it one verse at a time.
EXPERIENCE (Cool Down)
Now that you've studied and seen this verse... What do you do with it?
This is the part of Bible study that often gets skipped. But it's where the real growth happens.
It's where the Word becomes activated not just remembered, but lived.
Let's reflect:
1. Where Does This Verse Meet Your Life?
This verse says your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit not a burden, not a disappointment, not a problem to solve.
So pause and ask yourself:
How have I been viewing my body lately?
What would change if I truly saw it as a sacred dwelling place for God's Spirit?
What's one area where I've been dishonoring this temple?
Write your honest answers.
This is your real-life application.
And God's Word wants to meet you here—with grace, not shame.
2. Let the Word Guide You Gently
Now bring 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 back to that place.
You don't need a complete body transformation overnight.
You just need one gentle step toward honoring your temple today.
So ask:
What's one way I can honor God with my body today?
Maybe it's:
Drinking water as an act of stewardship
Taking a walk to appreciate God's creation
Resting as a recognition that your body belongs to the Lord
Speaking about your body with the respect due to God's dwelling place
Small doesn't mean insignificant. Small often means sacred.
3. Journaling Prompt
Write this in your journal (or say it out loud):
"God, my body is Your temple, bought with the precious blood of Christ. Help me honor it today by ________."
Let this verse become a prayer, a rhythm, a biblical perspective you return to.
Because physical wellness doesn't come from punishing your body— It comes from honoring the One who dwells within it through His Spirit.
YOU JUST STUDIED THE BIBLE. YES, REALLY.
You didn't need to read a theology of the body.
You didn't need a fancy Christian diet plan. You didn't need to know Greek or Hebrew.
You just needed a verse.
A pause.
A biblical perspective.
That's what Bible study for physical wellness can be—simple, visual, Spirit-led.
It's not about how much you know about health.
It's about how deeply you honor the temple that God has made your body to be.
So if you've ever felt behind in your wellness journey...
If you've ever wondered if you're "doing it right"... Let this moment be your gentle reminder:
Seeing your body through Scripture is wellness.
Reflecting on God's perspective is spiritual strength.
Taking one small step to honor your temple is more than enough.
