Seeing God’s Provision: A Biblical Journey into Financial Wellness

Written by Funmi

You check your bank account and that familiar anxiety creeps in.
You've read all the financial advice.
You've created budgets.
You've tried to follow Christian money management principles.

And yet, something still feels missing in your financial journey.
Not because you're irresponsible.
Not because you're bad with numbers.
But because you haven't seen God's Word speak to your finances in a way that makes sense to you.

Here's what I want you to know:
Your financial wellness journey doesn't have to look like everyone else's.
It can be gentle. Visual. Transformative.

For me? That started when I stopped seeing money as just resources to manage...
And started seeing it through the lens of God's faithful provision, just as Scripture teaches.

If you're ready to try that kind of biblical perspective—
You're in the right place.

Let me show you how one verse can transform how you see your financial wellness journey.

📖 SCRIPTURE (Warm-Up)

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
— Matthew 6:26, 33 (NIV)

Let's slow this down.
Before we break it apart, just... sit with it.
Breathe it in like a quiet stretch.
Let the words settle.

Look at the birds...
Not a spreadsheet to analyze. Not a problem to solve. Not a source of worry.

Birds. Being cared for. Without anxiety.

That one biblical image tells me something important:
Financial wellness begins with seeing God's character of provision.

Think about it—Jesus could have used any example to teach about worry and provision. He chose birds. Visible, everyday reminders of God's care.

Birds don't stress about retirement plans. They don't hoard resources beyond what they need. They simply live in the rhythm of receiving what God provides, day by day.

And Jesus says you're worth more than many birds.

That's how God views your financial journey in Christ.
It isn't just about accumulation.
It's about trust—trusting the One who provides.

When we start our financial wellness journey with this verse, we give ourselves permission to shift our perspective.
To seek first. To trust, not worry.
To steward, not hoard.

So before you create another budget spreadsheet, start here:
One verse.
One breath.
One biblical truth: your heavenly Father knows what you need.

ENGAGE (Strength Training)

This is where we build spiritual muscle—not by doing more, but by seeing more.
When you engage with Scripture about your finances, you're not just reading it...
You're interacting with it.

You're letting it speak through visuals, symbols, reflections, and rhythm.

Let's walk through how to engage with Matthew 6:26, 33 using a few gentle tools:

1. Highlight What Draws You In

Choose one word or phrase that feels alive to you.
You don't need to "pick the right one."
Just pick the one that pulls at your heart today.

Here are some options from the verse:

  • Birds of the air
  • Your heavenly Father feeds them
  • You are valuable
  • Seek first
  • His kingdom
  • All these things will be given

Which one are you noticing most?
Write it down. Or highlight it in your Bible.
That word is your doorway in.

 2. Ask Visual Questions

Let's say you chose "birds of the air." Try asking:

  • What do I notice about how birds live and receive what they need?
  • How is God's provision for birds visible in my everyday life?
  • What's the difference between a bird's trust and a bird's work?
  • How might I approach my finances differently if I truly believed I was more valuable than many birds?

These questions help you move from reading the verse... to seeing it through a biblical lens.

3. Sketch It Out (Even If You're Not "Artistic")

Here's a simple visual you can try:

  • Draw a small bird in flight at the top of your page.
  • Below it, draw a simple barn or storehouse.
  • Draw arrows from above pointing to the bird, representing God's provision.
  • Around these images, write the words "seek," "trust," "value," and "provision."
  • At the bottom, write "Seek FIRST" in larger letters than the rest.

You've just made a visual verse map—one of the simplest ways to remember biblical truth through imagery.
Don't worry about perfection. This isn't performance.
It's presence with God's Word.

Why This Works

When you interact with this verse visually or symbolically, it gets anchored in your heart.
It moves from your eyes to your heart.
And from your heart... to your daily financial decisions.

This is what engaging God's Word about your finances looks like.
It's creative. Reflective. Biblically-grounded.
And you can do it—one verse at a time.

🌿 EXPERIENCE (Cool Down)

Now that you've studied and seen this verse...
What do you do with it?

This is the part of Bible study that often gets skipped.
But it's where the real growth happens.
It's where the Word becomes activated—not just remembered, but lived.

Let's reflect:

🪞 1. Where Does This Verse Meet Your Life?

This verse says your heavenly Father knows what you need and will provide as you seek His kingdom first—not a financial plan that produces security, not a level of wealth that solves problems.

So pause and ask yourself:

  • 🟡 What am I currently most anxious about in my financial life?
  • 🟡 What would change if I truly believed God values me more than the birds He faithfully feeds?
  • 🟡 Where have I been seeking financial security first, instead of God's kingdom?

Write your honest answers.
This is your real-life application.
And God's Word wants to meet you here—with grace, not shame.

🕊 2. Let the Word Guide You Gently

Now bring Matthew 6:26, 33 back to that place.
You don't need a complete financial overhaul overnight.
You just need one gentle step toward kingdom-first finances today.

So ask:

📌 What's one way I can seek God's kingdom first in my finances today?

Maybe it's:

  • Pausing to pray before making a purchase decision
  • Setting aside the firstfruits of your income for giving
  • Taking a moment to notice and thank God for His provision
  • Releasing worry by writing down one financial concern and surrendering it to God

Small doesn't mean insignificant.
Small often means sacred.

✍️🏾 3. Journaling Prompt

Write this in your journal (or say it out loud):

"God, You care for the birds of the air, and I am valuable to You. Help me seek Your kingdom first in my finances today by ________."

Let this verse become a prayer, a rhythm, a biblical perspective you return to.

Because financial wellness doesn't come from accumulating more—
It comes from trusting the One who already knows what you need.

✨ YOU JUST STUDIED THE BIBLE. YES, REALLY.

You didn't need to read a theology of money.
You didn't need a 10-step biblical financial formula.
You didn't need specialized knowledge.

You just needed a verse.
A pause.
A biblical perspective.

That's what Bible study for financial wellness can be—simple, visual, Spirit-led.

It's not about mastering money principles.
It's about trusting the One who owns "the cattle on a thousand hills" (Psalm 50:10).

So if you've ever felt behind in your financial journey...
If you've ever wondered if you're "doing it right"...

Let this moment be your gentle reminder:

📖 Seeing your finances through Scripture is stewardship.
🖍 Reflecting on God's provision is spiritual wealth.
🕯 Taking one small step to seek His kingdom first is more than enough.
